After a rough start to the ski season, Utah has been getting some pow. Southern Utah has gotten a ridiculous amount of snow, so weekend before last, we decided to head to the LaSals to check it out.
Unfortunately, I really screwed up the weather forecast. I fully admit it. I thought it would be sunny on Sunday and cloudy on Saturday, and it was fully the reverse thanks to a bizarre cutoff low, so things were frozen solid, and they stayed that way all day.
The sunrise was incredible. The LaSals are so beautiful, and I can’t wait to go back and ski in better conditions.
Being able to ski and look below to the red rock is ridiculous and amazing.
No big lines for us today, but it was great to explore a new area of Utah.
We did dig a pit (NNE facing, 46 deg slope, ~ 10K ft?) to check out the dust layer and ran into a mess of sensitive layers. It was kind of ridiculous. The top layer was so solid, I doubt anything would have slid, but if it had happened, consequences would have been a little too high for my taste, so we bailed on our lines and went out to lunch in Moab, where it was warm and sunny.
